Having a studio away from home is a great idea. I go there and work without interruptions focusing solely on the work at hand. Unfortunately, I have to work long hours a day, teaching ceramics in high school. I love teaching, it is rewarding to see young minds develop and explore their own creativity. But it is draining. My 2 hour commute and the physicality of the work leaves me little energy for the heart and soul of my life, my art. As the semester rolls on, I have spent less time in the studio and more time just collapsing at the end of the day. I know that when I get into the studio, I awake and a new source of energy pushes me forward. Balancing all the ups and downs in life to get to the Me that lives is what I have to do, everyday.
