I received notification that I will be exhibiting in a solo show at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona next September 2017. It is an honor to be selected for a solo show. In preparation for this I have been researching the land area around Prescott and the Arizona terrain. In this research I have discovered a new word, Anthropocene. This word has embodied the idea that has been in my mind and art for a long time. I just discovered the word and the research behind it. The effect that humans have had on this earth have been going on for centuries, however, since the industrial revolution, human impact has been devastating to the land and to humans. Water, food, and land has been raped and mined for greed and profit. Melting ice caps and polluting waters are just a few obvious impacts that will change our lives in ways we cannot ignore. Through my work, I interpret the marks and scars man creates on this earth. Though visually appealing the horror is there imbedded in the geometric lines that are overlaid on the paintings. The flat work draws you in and you are hovering over it.The sculptural wall works symbolize the terrain coming into our space, pushing forward and demanding attention. Forms are made by reshaping canvas and showing the push and pull of the impact humans have on this planet.
