Installed in time for Earth Day 2022, Rescued Refuse is an exhibition of artworks by Shelley Heffler created from up cycled vinyl street pole banners and fence graphics. Beginning in 2017, the City of West Hollywood's arts Division began offering used vinyl to artists. This used vinyl was once used to display artwork on fences around the City or to advertise West Hollywood art events on street pole banners. Shelley received some of these vinyls and it inspired her to create a whole new body of artwork derived from cutting slashing, crunching and weaving these materials into new forms.
 Lock down has prevented the exhibition of It Takes A Village at Rogers Park in Inglewood.
Here are the final quilt squares created by the community participants. Catalogue will be available on Amazon soon. Thanks to all who participated and created a beautiful community together. My Artist in Residency has concluded on December 18th, 2021.
Exhibition of the full scope of the project is on hold until the city opens its doors when it is safe. Until then, please find the catalogue I produced on Amazon, titled It Takes A Village. Excited to have been selected by the Inglewood Arts Council as their Artist in Residency at Rogers Park. This is an award from the NEA Grants. I will be starting my residency in September on Friday's and Saturdays. We will be creating quilt squares with the them of Inglewood Stories. Free materials and supplies. Stop by on Friday 3-6 or Saturday, 12-4 at Rogers Park to participate. Address: 400 W Beach Ave, Inglewood, CA 90302  We are Home. A year long project that I conceived during the time of Quarantine. This monumental project is in affiliation with South Los Angeles Contemporary Gallery, a non-profit organization located in Crenshaw, Los Angeles. Community members were asked to create a 12 x12 inch square with the theme of Home. this collective effort brought in more than 130 pieces that I personally sewed trims and backings on. With the help of Linda Jo Russell, we delivered and hung the work in Lancaster Museum of Art and History where it will be on display until September. At the end of the year, we will auction each piece and the profits will be going to the Unhoused. I appreciate everyone who donated a quilt block to this project.
