Maps of the ImaginationThese paintings explore the intersection of geography, art, and the passage of time. By creating a composite collection of locations that evoke a sense of place, I am tapping into the ways in which maps and cartography can shape our understanding of the world around us.I use of poured colored paints and layered surfaces to also suggests a fascination with the physicality of landforms, and the ways in which human marks can become embedded in the earth over time. By emphasizing the strata and crust of the earth, these paintings suggest that the land is a living, evolving entity that bears the imprint of human activity.Overall, these paintings are an exploration of the ways in which we create meaning out of the landscape, and the ways in which the landscape in turn shapes our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
